The biggest news regarding Miami’s defensive line this week was the addition of new position coach Jess Simpson.

Mark Richt expressed plenty of excitement over Willie Moise’s commitment.

“Big recruiting news yesterday!” he tweeted Friday. “And I do mean BIG!”

Moise, a defensive tackle from Hollywood-Chaminade, pledged to Miami for 2020. He is not yet rated by recruiting websites, but according to 247Sports holds offers from LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Pittsburgh and Kentucky.

He is listed at 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds. His Chaminade team won a Class 3A state title last year.

According to 247Sports’ database, the Hurricanes, one of six programs with a commit for 2020, are the only team with more than three. They are off to a killer start, too: Two of them are rated as five-stars, and three more are four-stars. Wide receiver Leonard Manuel is the seventh-best 2020 recruit in the nation, per 247, and athlete Avantae Williams is 14th. Defensive ends Tre’Von Riggins (69th) and Samuel Anaele (78th) are top-100 players, while receiver Jermaine Burton (107th) is just outside.

Miami’s 2019 class, like the 2020 group, has more commits (11) than anyone and as such, ranks first in the nation. It is headlined by four-star receivers Jeremiah Payton and Brieon Fuller.
